Neptune
Neptune
Neptune is blue because it has blue clouds surrounding it. Neptune got its name because scientists all around the world finally agreed on a name and because of the blue clouds around it. They named it after the Roman God of the sea – Neptune. Neptune is mostly made of a liquid with no solid surface and gas. All of the other planets have rocky surfaces with hard volcanoes and mountains. Neptune is 2.8 billion miles (4.5 billion km) from the sun.

For lots of centuries, people didn't know Neptune existed. Johann Galle and Heinrich D'Hrrest found out it existed. Neptune has six rings that circle the planet. The rings are fairly new. Neptune has 13 moons that people know of. On August 25th, 1989 Voyager 2 learned more about Neptune. When Voyager 2 visited Neptune his pictures showed a giant storm a lot like the one on Jupiter. The storm was called "Great Dark Spot".
